This was captured in one those fleeting moments as the suns sets, using a high ISO setting so luckily I avoided the digital noise that often is associated with extending the tonal range on such a contrasty RAW file. OR was it improved techniques in Lightroom 4,1 Beta?

These are not great photos, but just capturing these was a feat! These little sooty terns (Onychoprion fuscatus) dive fast and from on high, they seldom miss a their catch. However they are a real challenge just to keep the little guy in the frame while panning my telephoto lens, not to mention the low light of dusk and focusing on the fast action

The tea tree flowering myth

There was a myth when I was a boy growing up in beaumaris (just south of melbourne) that the snapper would start biting as sson as the tea tree started to flower. All the boats boobing around out on the bay suggested to me it may just be a truthful bit of folk lore. This weekend I saw the first tea tree bloom of this year and the beach was packed with fisherman. The myth must work for the salmon running as well.
