Heat "noise" in low light

This is one of this " creative accidents". I used picasa's "I'm feeling lucky filter" on a chronically under-exposed photo (I sometimes do this just to see what is there!) and got the characteristic blocky "heat noise" you get in most lower level lighting/long exposure digital images, suddenly formed a beautiful pattern/texture. The art of such imperfections can be beautiful, at least sometimes.

Worn :: but wallpaper worthy

Luise Harbour Cruise Wallpaper1
Luise Harbour Cruise Wallpaper1,
originally uploaded by imageo.
From time to time I like to make up screen wallpapers, from my favourite photos. My Olympus Camedia Software includes a nice wallpaper maker, but I normally add extra stuff with Corel Photo Paint. This well worn securing ring on the barge deck made a perfect background to counterbalance my backlit photo taken from the same barge. Notice I have reversed and cropped this background image in the walpaper. My wallpapers can be downloded free (for personal use) from my Flickr Account.

An evening in Nouema

Available light images taken from my hotel with nightscene setting and a tripod (It is very difficult to hand hold low level light photos with most digital cameras, unless you want blur!)

Cameraphones :: Are they any good?

This photo was taken with my mobile phone (NEC 410i). Maybe cameraphones are not quiet ready to rival my traditional olympus camera, but still suitable for reasonable snapshots

Finding out more about your photos

Looking along the central range of New Caledonia

Most modern digital cameras store a lot of information in the jpeg file header. This is normally referred to as EXIF information, not all image software reads all of this information. I have found a very nice EXIF reader by Ryuuji and don't be put off by the japanesse, I'm sure you will find the links.

Reflections :: On a wet deck

In these photos I was mainly interested in the abstract patterns and colours in the reflections

So I have deliberately used sharpen filter applied multiple times to emphasis the texture of this "subject-less" photo.
